We received a letter from Ms Janina P. (her name and address are known to the editorial office), in which Ms Janina praised the decision of the Municipal Transport Company concerning the routing of line “10” through Bolesławiec, i.e. “down below”.
At the same time, there was a phone call condemning this decision. We therefore went to MZK to clarify the matter.
– I also received an unpleasant phone call – said MZK director Zbigniew Derecki.
– Fortunately, I collected more opinions approving it. Above all, the profitability of the routes has increased. Unlike before, the buses are not running empty; they are filled with schoolchildren happy to have transport connections, as well as people going mushroom picking, to the gravel pit, and residents of Zabobrze. It is also worth mentioning passenger safety, especially that children are less exposed to accidents after the buses were removed from the previous, very busy route.
That is all the explanation on this subject. On the occasion, we noted down some interesting facts and news from MZK. Here they are:
– not everyone probably knows that during the summer holidays, low-income children staying in Bolesławiec at holiday camps and youth camps could use city buses free of charge when travelling to swimming pools. A group of participants in the event called “Blues nad Bobrem” also had free transport;
– for passengers’ convenience, MZK printed a detailed timetable, which can be purchased at an affordable price (in other cities, if such a timetable exists at all, it costs around PLN 10,000; here it costs PLN 5,000);
– Regular and reduced-price monthly passes for one or all lines can also be purchased at the MZK ticket office. For example: for PLN 30,000, a pensioner or student can travel any number of times within the city on their line, and for PLN 45,000 on all lines;
– the introduction of tickets for 5, 10 and 15 journeys is being considered;
– single-journey and monthly ticket prices in Bolesławiec are half those in, for example, Jelenia Góra, and in the event of ticket price increases (which are unfortunately unavoidable), holders of monthly passes will continue to pay the current fares;
– the fine for travelling without a ticket is PLN 150,000, while insulting inspectors (one woman compared an inspector to Hitler, a scoundrel and so on) can result in a fine imposed by the Misdemeanour Court amounting to an entire salary.
– Bolesławiec’s public transport system will soon “turn” 10 years old (how time flies...). We will return to the anniversary.
