On May 20, 1996, at the municipal cemetery, we said farewell to Mgr Krzysztof Denicki – a teacher and educator, historian, professor... He was born on January 29, 1946. After completing his history studies at the University in Lublin (UMCS) in 1969, he came to Bolesławiec and began working, initially at Primary School No. 8, and later, in 1971–1972, at the Vocational Schools Complex. From September 1, 1972, he became permanently associated with the former Kindergarten Educators’ High School and Teacher Training College – now the Second General Secondary School. From 1986 to 1990, he served as director of the College. These are merely dry biographical facts, which do not convey everything about the man. What kind of person was Krzysiek?
To those who knew him only briefly or casually, he might have seemed somewhat unapproachable, sparing with words, or withdrawn. Upon closer acquaintance, he proved to be a pleasant storyteller, an excellent conversationalist, and a connoisseur of people and their problems.
Above all, he was a teacher and historian. I remember our long historical conversations, back when he was director. However, this position weighed on him; he was unable to bear all the psychological burdens that the education administration had placed on the shoulders of directors. He returned to teaching, where he felt best. He was fair to his subordinates and students, able to assess their intentions and knowledge. He passed away during the secondary-school final examinations; the tears in the eyes of his graduating students and pupils at his funeral were a sincere farewell to a well-liked professor. Among colleagues and friends, we called him “Krzysio,” and that is how he will remain in our memory.
