We can note another success beyond the local area with satisfaction:
"Głos Bolesławca"—alongside "Przegląd Lubański" and the Lubomierz-based "Samych Swoich"—received one of the awards funded by the Jelenia Góra Voivode in the annual "Our Contribution to Modernity" competition. From the outside, it is somehow easier to notice useful work for the community than from the very center of local events, especially in the face of the reluctance and primitive hostility of competing mass media ... So as not to fall into megalomania and self-praise, we will quote an opinion on the subject expressed in "Gazeta Jeleniogórska" by editor Cezary Wiklik, an expert on journalism / article: "Small Press—A Big Matter"/. The summary of the "Our Contribution to Modernity" competition was held at Czocha Castle near Leśna. It was attended by editorial teams from local periodicals in Lower Silesia, parts of Upper Silesia and the Opole region. The jury was chaired by Krystyna Sorbian-Goral of Poznań, who has long worked on local periodicals, while the assessment team included specialists from various fields, including associate professor Jan Załubski, PhD, from the Institute of Political Science and Journalism at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Marek Jachimowski, PhD, and Marek Gierula, PhD, from the Department of Journalism at the University of Silesia, as well as a representative of our editorial team.
In the assessment /.../ "the focus—as indicated by the subject of the competition—was on the degree of the newspaper’s involvement in promoting social, economic and cultural progress in its area, as well as the ‘presence’ of local issues, both in commentary and in news. /.../ Materials from 53 editorial teams were submitted to the competition".
Well—success gives us wings, so we will continue the work begun years ago. We are now celebrating the modest fourth anniversary of publishing our periodical. Let us recall that the first issue of "Głos Bolesławca" appeared on 3 May 1992. Much has changed since then on the macro scale and in the life of the local community. The worst is behind us: we have matured as an editorial team, expanded our territorial reach to the municipalities of Nowogrodziec and Osiecznica, and are transforming into a periodical of the Bolesławiec Land. We have our own profile, style and character, and that is how we will remain in service to the local community. We do not deal with high politics, do not represent any political option, and remain independent. We are interested in important matters of the “small homeland,” the consistent development of self-government democracy, cooperation and consensus in accordance with the principles of pluralism. We are not disturbed by views different from our own; we weigh only rational, common-sense arguments. This makes the recognition from the competition’s objective jury all the more gratifying, as it noticed useful work for progress in our modest social endeavors.
