A vote on a pay rise for starosta Cezary Przybylski took place during Thursday’s County Council session on 29 May. Fifteen councillors voted in favour of raising the salary by nearly PLN 2,000, two abstained and one voted against. The starosta will receive back pay from the beginning of the year and, instead of PLN 10,350, will receive PLN 12,300.
The justification for the resolution on the pay rise merely states that, on 22 April this year, the Council of Ministers issued a regulation amending the regulation on the principles of remuneration for local-government employees.
The only councillor opposed to the raise was Adam Ciemięga of Ziemia Bolesławiecka. “Representatives of the political class raise their own salaries so easily that it is indecent. The current administration promised a cheap state, but I can see that it mainly consists of cheap employment for young teachers and nurses,” he told IstotneInformacje.pl Adam Ciemięga. In the councillor’s view, the differences in remuneration among county-office employees are growing. “When they earn one national average salary, Cezary Przybylski’s salary should remain at the level of three average salaries,” Adam Ciemięga added.
Ewa Potyszka of Platforma Obywatelska was among those who defended the starosta’s salary. She argued that a person responsible for the entire county and for properly representing its residents should receive a fair salary. “I believe this is an expression of our respect for the person holding this position, and it is not the highest remuneration,” she told IstotneInformacje.pl Ewa Potyszka. After all, the starosta’s work does not end when they leave the office, the PO councillor added.
Let us recall that the salary of Bolesławiec mayor Piotr Roman also rose this week. Now both the starosta and the mayor will receive more than PLN 12,000 gross per month from public funds.
