In an interview with “Gazeta Wyborcza” published at the end of February this year, Cezary Przybylski, former Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, strongly criticized the fact that Poland is governed alternately by two parties:
In conversations, people often say that they are tired of the duopoly. However, when they go to the polls, they vote for one of those two groups. I am convinced that if not for Trzecia Droga and the statements harming Bezpartyjni Samorządowcy during the campaign, we would have achieved a decidedly better result in the election.
Will Bezpartyjni join forces with PSL?
Asked whether Bezpartyjni Samorządowcy would run in the election together with Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe, the local-government official replied:
It is a realistic scenario, if only because in the Lower Silesian Regional Assembly we are in the same caucus as Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe. On a great many issues, we have similar views and a similar program. But PSL still needs to be asked about running together.
Cezary Przybylski then returned to the issue of the duopoly:
For me, the dualism of power in the regions is unnecessary and harmful; I mean the marshal’s office and the voivodeship office. I believe that the voivode and the entire voivodeship office are unnecessary. The marshal should be the leader in the regions, as he has greater legitimacy to exercise power because he is elected. (Emphasis – istotne.pl). Admittedly indirectly, but this reform must also be completed so that the starosta and the marshal are elected directly.
