The latest increase is the result of sharply rising crude oil prices on global exchanges. A barrel of oil costs 135 dollars (the price on 22 May). This is the highest price for the commodity in the entire history of its trading. In Bolesławiec, a litre of 95-octane petrol now costs PLN 4.49. Diesel costs the same. Let us recall that two weeks ago, petrol and diesel prices at Bolesławiec stations ranged from PLN 4.30 to PLN 4.36 per litre.
Fuel prices have risen sharply not only in Bolesławiec. The average price of 95-octane petrol in Poland (based on quotations from the Polish Chamber of Liquid Fuels) currently stands at PLN 4.55 per litre. Diesel costs an average of PLN 4.61. Gas remains a cheap alternative to petrol and diesel. The average price of gas is PLN 2.17.
Retail fuel prices are affected by: the prices of crude oil and refined fuels on global exchanges, the excise duty rate (tax), the dollar exchange rate, and the general price level set by the largest producer and seller in a given region (in the Bolesławiec region, this is PKN Orlen). Other petrol stations adjust their prices to the level set by the dominant seller.
