For three days, Bolesławiec was the capital of Polish taekwondo. Youth teams from 10 provinces came to our city. The country’s best younger juniors (aged 13–14) competed for Olympic titles in 20 weight categories. A great deal took place on Saturday and Sunday in the sports hall at the I Liceum Ogólnokształcące. The program ranged from dance and capoeira performances to fitness competitions, formal patterns and individual bouts in the fight for Olympic medals.

Bolesławiec was represented by two athletes, Kamil Serafin (category M5) and Adam Filipek (category M6), from the ILYO club. Kamil Serafin won the gold medal and the title of Polish Youth Champion. Although Kamil narrowly lost the final bout, he can celebrate winning the championship title. This was decided by the total score our athlete accumulated in all competitions. The other Bolesławiec competitor—Adam Filipek—finished ninth.

“I am pleased with my success,” Kamil Serafin told Boleslawiec.org / IstotneInformacje.pl. “The athletes performed at a high level, but I won, and that is what matters. It seemed that I would finish second, but the points from other competitions—from formal patterns and techniques—made the difference, and thanks to them I won,” the young champion said happily. “We have a Polish champion. There were supposed to be two, but there is one. Half the plan has been completed; I feel somewhat unsatisfied,” said Mariusz Sulma, Kamil and Adam’s coach and also the competition organizer, after the event. The coach expressed the view that both Kamil and Adam would confirm their high abilities many more times and win further titles.

The National Youth Olympiad in Olympic Taekwondo (WTF) was held in Bolesławiec for the first time. “This year, the Polish Olympic Committee awarded the organization of the Olympiad to the Lower Silesian Voivodeship,” said MOSiR director Dariusz Jośko. According to the director, Bolesławiec is a very dynamic taekwondo center, which is why our city was chosen to host this prestigious event.
