The referendum was organized by nurses previously dismissed from Łużyckie Centrum Medyczne, based in Lubań. Despite the failure, nurses, midwives and doctors do not intend to abandon their efforts to obtain compensation for their dismissals.
Since the beginning of the year, nurses from Lubań have undertaken numerous initiatives to publicize the problem of the one hundred employees dismissed from the Medical Center. In addition to demonstrations and attempts to mediate with the county authorities, the nurses occupied the county office building in Lubań. So far, the fight for compensation has proved ineffective.

Bolesławianin: Every opportunity to influence the fate of the world around us is a good one. However, everything comes at a price: a local referendum costs quite a lot of money—that is the first point. Secondly, bearing in mind that referendums of this kind attract low turnout, this is money wasted from the outset. The county council decides whether to hold a referendum, so in practice it is the council that permits itself to spend residents' money. All this gives me mixed feelings about this way of influencing the fate of decision-makers. Moreover, it seems that local elections are the appropriate way to express one's views—once every four years is enough.
