“The accused injured himself in the presence of the court, the prosecutor and the police officers escorting him,” says Janina Jakubiec, president of the District Court in Bolesławiec. The man appeared before the Bolesławiec court on February 21. “After finishing giving his explanations, he stated that he wanted to be interned and refused to participate in any further proceedings,” Janina Jakubiec relates.

When the judge presiding over the trial informed the man that this was not possible, Rafał R. began behaving very aggressively. He banged his head against the wall and the table at which he was sitting, shouted and waved his arms. At one point, he stabbed himself in the neck, apparently using a pen cap. The police officers had to call for reinforcements.

The hearing was adjourned. The accused refused help from the police officers, who wanted to dress his wound. An ambulance took him away.

Rafał R. has repeatedly been in conflict with the law. He had previously been convicted, among other things, of robbery. He is currently being held in one of the prisons in Lower Silesia. He was brought to the courtroom by an escort team. In the trial, which began on February 21, the man is accused of obtaining a loan using a forged document.
