The most urgent task was to protect the school roof from rain and snow; the roof structure, along with the roof truss, was almost completely destroyed in the fire. This work has already been completed, and in the coming days the building will be dried by a company specializing in this type of operation. Moreover, thanks to the efforts of Gmina Head Dariusz Pawliszczy, the Regional Directorate of the State Forests has undertaken to provide 35 m³ of timber free of charge for constructing the building’s roof truss, while EnergiaPro will install the building’s power connection.

Funds amounting to PLN 200,000 for the future comprehensive renovation of the building were included in the gmina budget for 2008, adopted by the Gromadka Gmina Council on December 28.

Until the school building is reopened, besides renovating the school itself, the most important problem is ensuring that the children can continue their education. A building in the village has already been found for this purpose. Its owners, Mr. and Mrs. Paluszek, have provided it free of charge for use by the Association for the Development of Wierzbowa, which runs the local school.

The school’s temporary premises are being hastily adapted to the requirements that a school building must meet. The renovation work is being carried out voluntarily by village residents. The driving force behind the initiative is school principal Wanda Buczkowska.
