“This is a very strange piece of information. I am astonished. […] It shows that, in reality, the PiS programme and the idea of law and justice were not close to the President of Bolesławiec. It is a pity,” Jolanta Szczypińska, a PiS MP and close associate of former Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński, says in a special interview with Boleslawiec.org. “If Law and Justice had not supported him, he would not have become president either,” MP Szczypińska adds.
“PiS needed me more than I needed PiS,” Piotr Roman, the President of Bolesławiec, replies. “As far as membership is concerned, it had its advantages and its disadvantages. I know several people who did not vote for me because I was running with PiS,” the president adds. Piotr Roman explains that his departure is an act of solidarity, particularly with party chairman Kazimierz Ujazdowski, and that he simply feels he is no longer needed in the party.
The President of Bolesławiec rejects the argument that he is leaving the party because it is losing popularity. He announces that, for now, he is not considering joining another party, but immediately adds that “anything is possible in politics”.
