At around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday night into Sunday, an apartment on the third floor of one of the tenement buildings in the market square caught fire. A 55-year-old man jumped out of the window to escape the flames. After resuscitation, he was taken to hospital with broken legs and arms and severe internal injuries. He died in the admissions room.
During the firefighting operation, all residents of the building were evacuated. Four adults and two children escaped the fire by fleeing onto the roof of the tenement building, from where firefighters brought them down.
The immediate firefighting operation prevented the fire from spreading—the closely packed tenement buildings make it easy for a fire to quickly spread to other apartments.
The direct cause of the fire was probably the accidental ignition of combustible material.
