"I lost confidence in the director. I was dissatisfied with the results of his work. Zbigniew Fuchs did not have time to deal with matters concerning this hospital" – this is how psychiatric hospital director Janusz Kalisz explains the reasons for the dismissal. "The deputy director spent too much time arguing with my people instead of cooperating with them," Kalisz adds. The director does not yet know whether he will appoint anyone as his successor. Zbigniew Fuchs received three months’ notice and was released from the obligation to perform work. He recently returned from leave. The hospital continues to pay him his salary.

The fact that the former director for economic and operational affairs is the husband of Urszula Fuchs, director of the Bolesławiec ZOZ, or the second hospital, is also significant in the whole matter. The idea of merging with the county hospital recently outraged employees of the regional hospital. They protested against it even during the last session of the County Council. A strike was also threatened. According to director Kalisz, Fuchs exerted pressure on the trade unions so that they would not publicize the matter. "The trade unions held a meeting with the staff. The director tried to prevent the meeting from taking place, thereby violating the Trade Union Act. I gave my consent to it," Janusz Kalisz emphasizes.

According to director Kalisz, at a certain point Zbigniew Fuchs stopped fulfilling his duties. This happened when the director changed his successor’s employment contract from a fixed-term to an indefinite-term contract. "From that moment, the devil entered Mr. Fuchs. The matters he handled dragged on endlessly. The director stopped coming to my office regularly. The routine was that he came every morning and we agreed on the scope of work," Kalisz explains calmly. "Until his employment contract was changed, director Fuchs’s attitude was completely different," the director adds. Zbigniew Fuchs filed a lawsuit in labor court.

"I believe that someone who said himself, ‘If you have such suspicions, fire me,’ and then goes to court is simply unserious. Such people should not hold director-level positions," Janusz Kalisz comments on the former deputy’s decision. "Mr. Kalisz is talking nonsense and rubbish. You cannot say that there was any neglect. If he gave me bonuses and praise, was I working badly?" Zbigniew Fuchs protests indignantly. "Mr. Kalisz is behaving like a child," the former deputy director adds.

One of the accusations Kalisz made against Fuchs concerned the time it took to arrange a new mobile telecommunications operator for the hospital. The formalities took Zbigniew Fuchs two months. "But that did not depend on me," the former deputy director explains. Fuchs also rejects the allegation of a conflict of interest: "There is officially no merger of the hospitals. But it is permissible to discuss it." The former deputy director does not want to disclose details of his line of defense. He will save them for court. The trial will probably begin after the summer holidays.
