The largest scholarship competition in Lower Silesia is organized by the Foundation for International Education and the Lower Silesian local government. Annual scholarships worth between PLN 1,500 and PLN 2,500 are available to students from across the region who can boast significant academic, artistic or sporting achievements gained during the previous school year.

The most talented candidates – based on applications submitted by the interested parties themselves – will be selected by the Chapter of the Lower Silesian Council for Supporting Talent. Applications are open both to students of all types of schools from throughout the province and to students in the first three years of university. Students must demonstrate above-average academic, artistic or sporting achievements in the current school year. Achievements in each field should be accompanied by a high grade average and a high level of social activity among the candidates. The requirements are higher for university students. They must have achieved successes on an international scale.

The Foundation for International Education is accepting applications until 5 September this year. The competition results and the list of scholarship recipients will be announced in the second half of October. The selected individuals will receive scholarships for the subsequent 10 months of the 2007/2008 school year. The funds come, among other sources, from the budget of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and from donations made by individuals through the 1% tax allocation for the benefit of public-benefit organizations.

Bridging scholarships

At the same time, we would like to inform you that, in parallel with the “zDolny Śląsk” competition, applications are being accepted under the Bridging Scholarships Program for first-year students of full-time master’s programs from small towns in Lower Silesia. Candidates for “bridging scholarship” awards have a chance to receive annual scholarships of up to PLN 3,800. They may apply only until 10 August 2007.
