The gala was held on 18 June in the auditorium of Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących nr 1. For the sixth time, the County Centre for Education and Staff Training recognized both the most talented students and their teachers. All municipalities of Bolesławiec County signed an agreement on supporting gifted young people. Opening the ceremony, Cezariusz Rudyk, director of PCEiKK, informed those gathered that there was a chance that next year’s county mathematics competition would be equivalent to the provincial examination. He also announced that the Young Geniuses’ Club would begin operating the following year.
Krystyna Raszka, a Polish-language teaching adviser at PCEiKK, spoke about the county Polish-language competitions. During the 2006/2007 school year, the following were held: the 3rd County Spelling Tournament (in three age categories), the 2nd County Recitation Competition, the competition for primary-school students “In the Land of Attitudes, Feelings and Emotions” (5th edition), and the competition for middle-school students “Among Literary Motifs” (6th edition). This time, the competition’s main motif was the motif of a tree. For the first time this school year, the County Polish Language Competition for fifth-grade primary-school students, “Polish as a Close Companion,” was also organized.
The spelling tournament was won by Julia Jancelewicz of Primary School No. 4 (in the category for third-grade primary-school classes), Dominika Kamińska from the same school (in the category for grades IV–VI of primary schools), and Agata Grela of Gimnazjum Samorządowe nr 2 (in the middle-school category). The recitation competition was won decisively by Paula Kalwarska of the primary school in Nowogrodziec. Aleksandra Jancelewicz of SP 4 came first in the “Polish as a Close Companion” competition. Marta Borucińska, also from Bolesławiec’s “fourth” school, won the “In the Land of Attitudes, Feelings and Emotions” competition. In the sixth edition of the “Among Literary Motifs” competition for middle-school students, Justyna Panciszko from Iwiny and Maciej Karczmarczyk of GS 2 proved unbeatable.
Teaching adviser Jerzy Janowicz, in turn, spoke about the mathematics competitions. Around 2,000 students took part in the county mathematics competitions. The competitions were held in four stages and five age groups. The winners of the 6th County Mathematics Competition for third-grade primary-school students, “In the Land of Numbers,” were Arkadiusz Karczmarz (SP 3) and Paweł Werda (SP Iwiny). Adrianna Dereszyńska of SP 5 and Magdalena Filip of SP 3 were joint winners of the county stage of the 5th Bolesławiec Mathematics Competition in the primary-school category. In the county stage of the same competition, in the first-grade middle-school category, Mateusz Chmielik of II Prywatne Gimnazjum came first. In the category for second- and third-grade middle-school classes, the top places went to Przemysław Juda of GS 2 and Janusz Wróbel of Wykrot (both were also winners of the county stages of the competition in the categories of upper-secondary schools—basic level and upper-secondary schools—advanced level).
In the zDolny Ślązak Gimnazjalista competition, co-organized by PCEiKK for six years, the best performers were Damian Tomaszewski of ZS Świętoszów (mathematics and natural sciences section) and Dorota Tkacz of GS 3 (humanities section). Representatives of the city and county authorities presented the most talented students with book prizes and commemorative certificates. The teachers were not forgotten either; they received roses and letters of congratulations.
Bolesławiec County Governor Cezary Przybylski congratulated all those honored. He said there was a strong chance of obtaining European Union funds for the development of education. However, this would not be possible without the potential present among the students of the entire Bolesławiec County. “Grants are given where the necessary conditions exist,” the county governor added. Councillor Janina Piestrak-Babijczuk thanked the children. She wished them further success and that they would not change. The next gala will be held in a year.
