As early as the end of April, one of our readers informed users of the Boleslawiec.org forum that Piotr Demarczyk is indeed listed in the physician register on the website of the Supreme Medical Chamber, but has no specialization. Therefore, the director does not have the qualifications to hold such a high position. Nevertheless, Demarczyk got the job because he presented Urszula Fuchs, director of the SP ZOZ, with all the necessary documents. It is now being determined whether the documents are genuine.
Urszula Fuchs was informed that something was wrong by the Professional Liability Ombudsman of the Silesian Medical Chamber, to which Demarczyk belongs. It turned out that Piotr Demarczyk was being sought by the prosecutor’s office in Czarnków in order to clarify doubts concerning his qualifications.
From the moment he was appointed in March 2007, Demarczyk aroused enormous controversy, not only within the medical community. First, he was a physician from Zgorzelec. Second, he decided to make a series of changes at the SP ZOZ. His personnel decisions divided public opinion. At first, there was talk of Doctor Ośka’s resignation. The former head of the surgical department resigned because the hospital was buzzing with rumors that Demarczyk was preparing someone to replace him. To replace Ośka, the director hired a specialist also from outside Bolesławiec – Tomasz Michalski from Lwówek Śląski. Piotr Demarczyk justified his choice by saying that Michalski would expand the range of procedures available in our city and, consequently, increase surgical contracts.
Some praised these decisions to change the hospital’s profile, while others criticized them. Demarczyk told Boleslawiec.org that he had expected resistance from the doctors: "If someone has functioned within a particular personnel arrangement for 20 or 30 years, with only minor changes, it is difficult to expect everyone to be delighted that someone will come along with different requirements concerning the work system, work organization and scope of duties."
Urszula Fuchs spoke with the director of the hospital in Zgorzelec, where Demarczyk had previously worked. The director there praised him highly.
