The GazetaWrocławska.pl website reported that the expert examination results are now available. A substance used to harden resins, commercially known as Butanox M50, was found in a bottle of highly carbonated Żywioł water. What is more, it was also confirmed that the hardener was not poured into the bottle at the mineral water plant. This substance is not used to manufacture plastic bottles either. How, then, did this chemical agent get into the Żywiec Zdrój Żywioł bottle? It is not known at present. Proceedings in the case are ongoing
Let us recall: the investigators’ findings so far indicated that Maciej Z. consumed a small amount of the colorless liquid in a bottle bearing a “Żywiec Zdrój Żywioł” label in the evening hours of September 21 this year. As a result, he was taken to hospital, where he received medical attention.
At the apartment where the injured man had been staying, 11 bottles of highly carbonated “Żywiec Zdrój Żywioł” mineral water, with a capacity of 0.5 liters and bearing batch marking S:08/08/08:49/3/1, were secured, along with one bottle from batch S:20/04/11:04/3/1. According to Maciej Z.’s father, Eugeniusz, the entire multipack had been purchased that same day at one of the stores in Bolesławiec.
At the beginning of October, Żywiec Zdrój issued a statement saying that “Żywiec Zdrój products were and are safe for consumers throughout Poland and beyond its borders,” and appeared to suggest that the water may have been contaminated in Bolesławiec.
The proceedings in this case are being conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra. We will return to the subject.
