Tomasz Ch., who was remanded in custody at the request of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lwówek Śląski, hanged himself in custody. The information was confirmed to Istotne.pl by Marcin Piekarski, the local district prosecutor. The investigation into Ch.’s death is being conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lubań. The investigation by the Lwówek prosecutor’s office will be discontinued.
Let us recall: the tragedy occurred on Thursday, October 6, in Lwówek Śląski. A drinking party was taking place in one of the apartments, during which an argument and a physical altercation broke out between approximately 40-year-old Tomasz Ch. and his younger common-law partner. The woman, bearing numerous signs of assault, was found in the stairwell. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate her. Without success. The victim died as a result of her injuries.
The autopsy showed that the victim had suffered abdominal injuries. Preliminary findings by experts indicated that, in fact, the perpetrator may have delivered one stronger blow. And that the woman would have survived if she had received help somewhat earlier.
What is more, the suspect was well known to the police. For some time, he had been abusing his common-law partner. (It was written on the Lwówek forum that half the town knew about it.) The problem was that each time the woman refused to file any report.
Tomasz Ch. faced a sentence of up to 12 years in prison.
