Criminal investigators from the Legnica police headquarters received a report of the theft of a BMW worth PLN 15,000. The report itself immediately seemed suspicious to the officers. Cars of this type are rarely targeted by thieves. It turned out that on the day of the alleged theft, the vehicle’s owner had been getting into it. The swift investigation culminated in another report concerning a collision with a parked car. The perpetrator fled the scene. But he lost a registration plate belonging… precisely to the supposedly stolen BMW.
The 22-year-old resident of Legnica was detained. He admitted that after causing a collision while drunk, he wanted to avoid the consequences by making up a story about a stolen car. He now faces up to two years in prison.
