Officers from the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec arrested a 45-year-old man suspected of attempting to commit robbery with a knife. The arrest came after police received information from the woman who was attacked that she had been assaulted in a park by an unknown man who, using a knife, demanded that she hand over her money. The victim managed to escape. Officers immediately began searching for the perpetrator. Working from the attacker’s description, they searched the surrounding area. A short while later, they arrested the suspect.
As the officers established, the victim decided in the afternoon to go to a shop for a moment. As she walked through the park, a man approached her. He grabbed her by the arm and demanded that she hand over her money. The woman refused. Fortunately, she managed to break free and escape.
Several hours later, when the victim was walking along a different route, the same man ran up to her and again demanded money—only this time he pulled a knife from behind his back. Seeing this, the victim began to run. She had her back turned to the perpetrator when, at one point, she felt a blow and severe pain in her back. Despite this, she did not stop and continued running.
The man arrested by police officers has already been charged. He faces up to 15 years in prison. At the request of the prosecutor’s office and police, the court ordered the aggressor to be held in temporary detention for three months.
