On 21 September, the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters was notified by the district hospital in Bolesławiec that a man with severe burns to the oesophagus had been admitted.
He had previously drunk water from two bottles of Żywiec Zdrój Żywioł (highly carbonated). According to the police's preliminary findings, the water contained acid. It was bought at the TechBol wholesaler on Dolne Młyny Street in Bolesławiec.
Police secured a shrink-wrapped pack containing 10 factory-sealed 0.5-litre bottles of water and two partly drunk bottles of the same capacity. One opened bottle was from the first batch, and the other from the second. The production facility listed on the labels of all the bottles was at 71 Sprzymierzonych Street, 78-650 Mirosławiec.

As reported by PolsatNews.pl, Żywiec Zdrój S.A. spokesperson Martyna Węgrzyn announced that the company had set up a crisis team to investigate the matter. “In this particular pack, not all the products came from the same batch. This may mean that the pack was not originally packaged as a complete unit. This is very important information for us,” she said on Polsat News. The company wants to establish what happened as soon as possible. Sales of the two batches of water have been suspended.
