Graduates can take subjects either at the basic or extended level. Among the written matura examinations, the largest number of graduates decided to take an extended-level exam at Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących nr 1. The most popular subjects include modern languages, civic knowledge and biology.

Last Friday, students took the written Polish examination. On Monday, those who had chosen English took their exam. On Tuesday, examinations in civic knowledge were held. On Wednesday, German-language enthusiasts will be racking their brains over the exam. On Thursday, geography enthusiasts will take theirs. Next Friday, biology examinations will begin. Those who decided to take other subjects have this entire week to study.

This year’s written matura examination is shorter. In previous years, graduates who wanted to take a subject at the extended level first had to take it at the basic level. This year, the more ambitious graduates are proceeding straight to solving the extended-level paper. 2007 is the final year in which the amnesty introduced by Education Minister Roman Giertych will apply. It is possible to fail one subject and still receive the matura certificate. In 2008, all graduates will also have to take mathematics.
