Representatives of the city and county authorities, clergy, members of veterans’ organizations, and Siberians arrived for the ceremony. Soldiers were also present—from both the I and II Polish Armies and the Home Army. Soldiers of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade, whose garrison is located in our city, also attended. Fourteen flag-bearing delegations took part in the ceremony. Stanisław Chwojnicki, Deputy Starost of Bolesławiec, welcomed everyone gathered.
Colonel Włodzimierz Kowalski addressed everyone present, asking them to remember the heroes of those events. When he spoke about World War II, his voice trembled with emotion.
Lieutenant Father Marcin Kwiatkowski said a prayer for those who were murdered.
A company of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade fired a ceremonial salvo in honor of the Polish soldiers.
Delegations laid bouquets of flowers at the monument. During the ceremony, heavy rain began to fall. Voices could be heard saying that even the sky was mourning the fallen today.
After the official part, Stanisław Chwojnicki invited everyone to a soldiers’ pea soup meal.
