Service in the police may be performed by a person who is:
- a Polish citizen of impeccable reputation;
- who has not been convicted by a final court judgment of an offence or a fiscal offence;
- enjoying full public rights;
- having at least secondary education;
- having the physical and mental capacity to serve in armed formations subject to special service discipline, which they are prepared to obey;
- providing a guarantee of maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the requirements set out in the regulations on the protection of classified information;
- in addition, persons subject to military qualification should have a regulated status regarding military service.
