A councillor asked about the linden trees on Dolne Młyny Street in Bolesławiec during the most recent City Council session. Piotr Klasa from the Samorządowa Platforma wanted to know whether the numbered trees were to be cut down. Piotr Roman: “Residents of Dolne Młyny Street are demanding that something be done about the linden trees. I do not know what to do with them, because I am not an expert in this, but I passed the information on to the county head. My family no longer lives there, so I now have somewhat freer hands.”
The president emphasized: “There cannot be a situation where someone opens a window and has a linden tree filling its entire length, because these trees have not been pruned or maintained. They did not take care of them [mowa o władzach powiatu, bo ul. Dolne Młyny jest drogą powiatową – przyp. „ii”]. The interests of the environment must be reconciled with the interests of people who have no sunlight or daylight in their windows because someone neglected to maintain the linden trees.”
But he immediately added: “In the case of Dolne Młyny Street, I am not in favor of cutting down all the linden trees. The main point is to solve the problem that we have been discussing with the county authorities for several years. And I repeat: very many residents have asked me to do something about it. Have the county officials done anything? They numbered the trees. I do not know what these numbers mean; perhaps it is a new variety of lotto and the point is to draw a linden tree.”
