The incident occurred during the night of August 22–23, at around 3:30 a.m., at a bus stop near the PKP railway station in Jelenia Góra. The municipal monitoring duty officer noticed a young man approaching a person sleeping on a bench, stealing their bag and then walking away toward the city center. He did not know that he was being observed by the city’s monitoring cameras.
He learned this from municipal guards, who… apprehended him 150 meters away. He was surprised by the intervention. The guards went with the 25-year-old, a resident of Jelenia Góra, to the scene of the theft. There, the victim, a 54-year-old resident of the area around Bolków, confirmed that his bag containing personal belongings had been stolen. A police patrol was called to the scene, and the theft suspect was handed over to the officers. He faces up to 5 years in prison.
