The competition, organized by the Polish National Energy Conservation Agency SA, concluded on April 20 in Warsaw. Its aim is to promote rational and efficient energy management at the municipal level. The jury, which included representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of the Environment, Rockwool Polska, the Association of Polish Cities and the Polish National Energy Conservation Agency, considered the energy savings achieved in public buildings in 2006 compared with 2004 and 2005. Last year, Bolesławiec saved nearly 33,000,000 kilowatt-hours of energy.
In the category for municipalities with up to 30,000 residents, two joint winners were selected: Dobra Szczecińska and Drawsko Pomorskie. In the category for municipalities with up to 100,000 residents, Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski won. In the category for municipalities with more than 100,000 residents, the winner was Rzeszów. The Bolesławiec Municipality received the special award funded by Leszek Juchniewicz, President of the Energy Regulatory Office. The municipality was recognized for the energy savings achieved in 2006 and for reducing pollutant emissions into the atmosphere. Bolesławiec received the highest financial award—PLN 15,000. The other winners received PLN 10,000 each.
