On July 21, at around 1:50 a.m., police officers responded to a report of a break-in at a VW Polo in an underground car park in Jelenia Góra. When the burglars—men aged 31 and 32—realized that officers had arrived, they fled. One hid in the bushes, while the other threatened to kill a police officer with a screwdriver.
The officers determined that, during the night of July 20–21, the detainees had attempted to break into four other vehicles and intended to steal a moped and a bicycle. What is more, they had also attempted to break into a tobacco wholesaler’s warehouse in Jelenia Góra and had broken into a garage. In addition, the 32-year-old broke into and robbed a basement in one of the apartment buildings in Jelenia Góra. Both committed these crimes as repeat offenders. The 32-year-old had left pre-trial detention just a month earlier, where he had been serving a prison sentence for similar offenses.
The detainees were taken to police custody. The men face up to 10 years in prison.
