The trainee must, of course, meet certain criteria. He must be fit for military service, hold a Category B driving licence, and undergo psychological and occupational-medicine examinations. If he meets these requirements, the military draft commander signs an agreement with him under which the conscript undertakes to complete nine months of military service as a driver. After completing it, the soldier does not have to remain in the army at all. What is more, if he chooses to transfer to the reserve, the army will issue him with a certificate stating the number of kilometres he drove during his service.
The training lasts three months. It would cost a civilian PLN 1,600. In addition, if someone is from outside Bolesławiec, the army will also reimburse their travel costs. Each course has 15 conscripts. If any of them fails to complete the training or pass the examination, they will have to repay this money. In March, a course conducted by PZMot in Zgorzelec ended. Ten trainees passed on their first attempt. On 23 and 24 April, the first conscripts trained by the Bolesławiec PZMot will take their examination in Jelenia Góra. Apart from Bolesławiec and Zgorzelec, training is held in Jelenia Góra, Wrocław, Legnica, Lubin, Kłodzko and Świdnica.
The next course, conducted by PZMot Zgorzelec, will begin on 12 April 2007. The next training sessions in our town will not begin until the end of July. As Lieutenant Colonel Zbigniew Borysewicz, Commander of the WKU in Bolesławiec, told us, "so far, we have not had any problems with attendance". He stressed that this is an excellent opportunity for conscripts to gain experience and improve their qualifications. And, incidentally, they can acquire a specific profession.
