The incident occurred at night on the A18 road near Świętoszów. A passenger-car driver crashed into a convoy of American military trucks leaving the training ground. The passenger in the car died at the scene, while the driver was taken to hospital in serious condition.
The American female soldier was driving the military vehicle, which was transporting a container with a tanker trailer attached. The vehicle was taking part in the Anakonda-16 manoeuvres. The Polish car had registration plates from Katowice.
It is not yet known why this tragic accident occurred. The departure of the vehicles should have been secured by traffic control. The investigation will determine whether everything was carried out in accordance with the regulations. For now, it is being conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec.
