On the stage of the Forum hall, young people from Pracownia Twórczej Ekspresji will present a play on Wednesday, 25 May, at 12:00, with an interesting message: “Life is a fairy tale in which everything ends well. If it is not good, it means that it is not the end yet.”

While preparing the event, under the guidance of a theatre instructor, the students analysed all the elements associated with the themes and characters of fairy tales: the struggle between good and evil, beauty and ugliness, hatred, friendship and love. These ideas, examples from life, inspirations drawn from art, wonderful texts by outstanding authors and the therapeutic role of fairy tales intertwined to create the final result: the play. The play will use texts by Hans Christian Andersen, Wisława Szymborska, Jeremiasz Przybora, Malina Prześluga, Władysław Sikora and Katarzyna Miller.

Pracownia Twórczej Ekspresji

This name encompasses many opportunities, events and reasons why successive students of our school decide to devote their free time to creative and expressive artistic activities—that is how Katarzyna Syguła-Wieczorek (teacher, theatre instructor and speech therapist) writes about the classes she leads.

Pracownia Twórczej Ekspresji is an idea for extracurricular artistic activities that emerged in 2000. Evolving and adapting to the needs of changing generations of young people, it continues to this day. It is primarily a theatre space, but also one for dance, singing, visual arts and tourism.

An important result of our work is the plays staged every year on the large stages of our city. We prepare them throughout the year with each new cast of the theatre group. Below are excerpts from the plays “Na początku było słowo” and “On i Ona, Ona i On”.

We prepare every performance from scratch—from the idea, through the script, props and costumes, and joint direction, to the posters, invitations and stage and audience support. In this way, every student, regardless of their talent, passion or level of openness, becomes an integral part of the whole, of which everyone is proud.

The meetings at the studio fulfil an important aspect of human development through so-called art therapy—development through art. In addition to the ultimate goal of presenting their own work, young people are eager to participate in the classes because of the principles of mutual acceptance and openness to unconventional views, behaviours, different temperaments and interests that prevail here.

Pracownia Twórczej Ekspresji is open to everyone, regardless of talent or skills, but students must balance the time devoted to creative activities—approximately five hours a week—with their school responsibilities.

The programme also includes trips to theatre performances. Young people take part in theatre and art workshops, as well as art history workshops, at cultural centres in Bolesławiec and Wrocław.

In this way, the studio becomes an additional space for development at our school, where, beyond relationships and contacts within the class community, students can form new acquaintances and friendships based on shared interests.

Although the final result in the form of a play is very important and offers the opportunity to experience great success and self-fulfilment based on overcoming personal limitations, it is not the main goal of our meetings. Relationships are most important to us. Mutual acceptance, honesty and support are important elements that give us wings even when our strength sometimes runs out.
