The ban on burning also applies to plant residues generated in allotment gardens, parks and gardens. “It is very important to make all residents aware of the consequences of burning waste in household stoves and boilers and in the open air,” municipal police officers say. “It is also important to indicate the correct way to handle waste, which will help avoid penalties and contribute to improving air quality in our city.”

Since the beginning of the year, municipal police officers have carried out 78 inspections. Some were initiated by the Municipal Police, while others followed reports from residents.

On 17 May, in the afternoon, while patrolling Karola Miarki Street, municipal police officers received a report from a passer-by that acrid black smoke was coming from one of the chimneys of a building on that street.

It turned out that a resident was throwing… used footwear into a tiled stove. The man was fined 200 zlotys and ordered to refrain from similar behaviour in the future. A date was also set for a follow-up inspection of the premises.

As the allotment-garden season is underway, officers inform residents that a total ban on burning in the open air also applies within the city of Bolesławiec. “We remind you that no plant residues may be burned. Biodegradable waste should be composted or handed over free of charge to the PSZOK (Selective Municipal Waste Collection Point), located at the Municipal Communal Services Company in Bolesławiec, at Staszica Street,” the officers explain. “We draw this to the attention of all residents of our city, especially allotment gardeners, who may commit a prohibited act while carrying out spring clean-up work on their plots by burning plant residues.”

This may result in a fine of up to 500 zlotys. The same applies to lighting fires outside designated areas and throwing various types of waste into fire pits in designated areas.

Such a situation occurred on Bobrowa Path. The patrol noticed dark smoke rising. It turned out that young people had lit a fire in an unauthorised location and were burning… plastic bottles. They explained that… the wood was wet and took too long to catch fire.

The person who threw the plastic into the fire was fined 100 zlotys.
