The incident occurred on April 28, during the night. Traffic police officers from Zgorzelec were carrying out checks in the city. On one of the streets, by a newsstand, they noticed a young man who, upon seeing them, threw aside the backpack he was carrying and began to run away.
He was caught by the police officers very quickly, and the reasons for his escape soon became clear. He had attempted to cut an opening in the back wall of the newsstand, through which he intended to steal merchandise. In the backpack he had discarded, the police officers found, among other things, metal-cutting shears, a hammer, a chisel and a razor.
Moreover, the officers found several portions of methamphetamine on the 29-year-old resident of Zgorzelec. The suspect now faces up to 10 years in prison.
