At the official opening, guests were welcomed by Katarzyna Zarówny, painting workshop instructor Katarzyna Sas, and Wiesława Olczyk, a representative of the Bolesławiec University of the Third Age, as well as the deceased artist’s son, Paweł Maryniak. Moving recollections of Jadwiga Maryniak’s work were complemented by a slideshow commemorating the artist’s creative life journey.
In the spacious interior of the “W sam raz” gallery, watercolours, paintings on canvas and ceramic sculptures by the late artist were presented. Accompanied by musical pieces by the deceased artist’s favourite composer, Andrea Bocelli, the audience had the opportunity to become acquainted with and rediscover her artistic talent, which she honed during the final stage of her life. Jadwiga Maryniak herself expressed her attitude towards art as follows: “Sometimes one has to wait a long time for dreams to come true, and yet it is worth having dreams… In my life, there was always a longing to fulfil myself through painting. My school years brought a few awards and diplomas for interesting works of art, and then came a long break. It was filled by professional work and only occasional painting. When my work colleagues wondered what they would do in retirement, I always knew—I would paint! Books and publications on various fields of art were my guides for a long time, but it was only joining the University of the Third Age that proved to be the moment when my dreams came true. Here I am learning the secrets of painting, initially under the guidance of Joanna Mysłek-Michnowska, and now Katarzyna Sas. Painting, drawing, batik, stained glass and even sculpture—all these activities develop me inwardly, allow me to use my skills, and the work releases energy that brings the joy of creation.”
The exhibition will be open until the end of May.
