During the meeting, workshops incorporating elements of bibliotherapy were held for young people aged 13–16. The main topic was gossiping, or so-called information in motion. The ability of young people—and not only them—to recognise the power of spoken words is extremely important. Therefore, to draw attention to this important aspect of communication in our lives, this topic was chosen for the meeting.

The workshops were based on Madonna’s book “Mr. Peabody’s Apples”, recognised as a fairy tale for children of all ages, and the lesson plan “What Does Anyone Need Gossip For?”, published in issue 2/2014, pp. 28–30, of the quarterly BIBLIOTERAPEUTA. The lesson plan for the workshops was slightly modified and enhanced with integration activities and exercises introducing the topic. The text of the song “Human Chatter”, performed by Maryla Rodowicz, and Maria Terlikowska’s poem “Gossip” were used during the activities.

The participants included teachers, librarians and members of the Legnica Circle. The regular workshops aim to familiarise participants with the ideas of bibliotherapy and demonstrate how activities incorporating elements of bibliotherapy are structured. They also provide an opportunity to present a lesson plan and an attractive way of working with children and young people. It was also an excellent opportunity to meet teachers and librarians from Bolesławiec and the surrounding area and establish new contacts.

The meeting of bibliotherapy enthusiasts took place in a creative and friendly atmosphere. The participants considered it valuable and inspiring for their further work with young people and for themselves. We invite you to visit the website of the Legnica Bibliotherapy Circle.

The Legnica Circle of the Polish Bibliotherapy Association also recommends Grażyna Hanaf’s fairy tales “Garbuska” and “Dziewczynka skrzynka”.
