During the meeting, workshops incorporating elements of bibliotherapy were held for young people aged 13–16. The main topic was the problem of gossip, or so-called information in motion. The ability of young people—and not only them—to recognize the power of spoken words is extremely important. Therefore, in order to draw attention to this important aspect of communication in our lives, this topic was chosen for the meeting.

The workshops were based on Madonna’s book “Mr. Peabody’s Apples,” recognized as a fairy tale for children of all ages, and the lesson plan “What Is Gossip Good For?”, published in issue 2/2014 of the quarterly BIBLIOTERAPEUTA, pp. 28–30. The lesson plan used during the workshops was slightly modified and enriched with integration activities and exercises introducing the topic. The lyrics of the song “Ludzkie gadanie,” performed by Maryla Rodowicz, and Maria Terlikowska’s poem “Plotka” were used during the activities.

The participants included teachers, librarians and members of the Legnica branch. The regular workshops aim to familiarize participants with the ideas of bibliotherapy and demonstrate how to structure activities incorporating elements of bibliotherapy. They also provide an opportunity to present a lesson plan and an engaging way of working with children and young people. It was also an excellent opportunity to meet teachers and librarians from Bolesławiec and the surrounding area and establish new contacts.

The meeting of bibliotherapy enthusiasts took place in a creative and friendly atmosphere. The participants considered it valuable and inspiring for their further work with young people and for themselves. We invite you to visit the website of the Legnica Bibliotherapy Branch.

The Legnica Branch of the Polish Bibliotherapy Society also recommends the fairy tales Grażyna Hanaf “Garbuska” and “Dziewczynka skrzynka”.
