Drivers travelling on the A4 motorway at the time called the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters duty officer, reporting that one of the trucks was driving across the entire width of the road, cutting off other vehicles, speeding up and braking abruptly.
The truck driver was stopped by police officers. It turned out that he was drunk. A test showed 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his system. The man was detained until he sobered up and was then questioned.
The detainee—45-year-old resident of Piotrków Trybunalski—stated that he had set off from Kalisz for France. He admitted that while driving on the motorway, he had drunk three beers. He was unable to explain his behaviour.
He now faces up to three years in prison.
