On 9 April, at the Municipal Cemetery in Zgorzelec, police officers said farewell to their colleague – Staff Aspirant Dariusz Markiewicz. He passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. In the funeral ceremony, held in accordance with police protocol, the immediate family was joined by Zgorzelec officers, an honour guard company and a police band.
The District Police Commander in Zgorzelec, Junior Inspector Leszek Zagórski, while expressing his condolences to the family, emphasised the deceased officer’s exceptional commitment, sense of duty and, above all, the extensive knowledge possessed by Staff Aspirant Dariusz Markiewicz. The commander stressed how much support the deceased officer received from his beloved wife and daughter.
Staff Aspirant Dariusz Markiewicz began serving in the police in 1998. From 2000, he served in the Forensic Techniques Team of the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec. From the beginning of his service, Staff Aspirant Dariusz Markiewicz was characterised by great commitment, conscientious and reliable work, and on many occasions by sacrificing his free time to perform official duties. He frequently used his extensive knowledge to support many younger, less experienced police officers, who could always count on his help. Throughout his service, he was repeatedly commended and awarded.
For exemplary and exceptionally conscientious performance of duties arising from his professional work in state service, he was awarded the Gold Medal for Long Service by the President of the Republic of Poland in 2015.
