This appeal did not come out of nowhere. As Bolesławiec Municipal Police reports, many drivers park their cars in front of, behind or even directly on pedestrian crossings. Municipal police officers remind drivers that people who park a vehicle less than 10 metres from a pedestrian crossing not only violate applicable traffic regulations, but also create a real threat to the lives and health of pedestrians, especially children who want to get safely to school. Anyone emerging from behind an improperly parked car is invisible to other drivers.
Parking vehicles at intersections is just as dangerous, often “just for a moment” so that a child can get out of the car and walk to school. “These drivers completely fail to notice how enormous a danger they create for both pedestrians and other drivers, who are often forced to brake suddenly or avoid the vehicle, committing another offence,” municipal police officers say.
During their daily patrols, municipal police officers repeatedly intervene with drivers committing the above offences. People who commit such acts face a fine of up to PLN 300.
