The exhibition will present objects associated with Lenten and Easter traditions that have survived in various regions of Poland. The exhibits include, among other things, Stations of the Cross painted on glass, wooden rattles used during Holy Week rituals, as well as sculptures, reliefs, oleographs and paintings depicting the Passion.

The exhibition could not omit Easter eggs decorated using various techniques. A collection of as many as 600 colorful eggs and blown-out eggshells will be displayed. The largest group consists of Opole kroszonki covered with intricate engraved (scratched) decoration. The Easter palms from the area around Bolesławiec also deserve attention, including both small examples and several-metre-tall specimens that are a source of pride for their makers.

One of the exhibition rooms has been arranged as the interior of a rural cottage, with traditional holiday decorations suspended from the ceiling—so-called spiders. These intricate, openwork constructions, made of colorful tissue paper and straw, were created in Bolesławiec County. The exhibition is complemented by folk costumes still worn in some regions during church holidays, including Easter, expressing attachment to tradition. The ceramic elements of the arrangement include Bolesławiec molds for Easter cakes and jugs decorated with the Lamb of God motif. The exhibition concludes with objects associated with Wet Monday and Śmigus-Dyngus: korwacze—rods sometimes used instead of water, “as a warning,” and a cart with a small rooster, an attribute of boys who went “dyngus-ing.”

The exhibition was prepared in cooperation with the Opole Village Museum in Opole, the Karkonosze Museum in Jelenia Góra, the Ethnographic Museum in Wrocław and the Bolesławiec Land Song and Dance Ensemble. The exhibition can be visited from 12 March 2016 to 30 April 2016 in the Department of the History of the City at 14 M. Kutuzowa Street. Throughout the exhibition, admission is free for children and school students.

The exhibition will be accompanied by art workshops for the youngest visitors, scheduled for 15, 16 and 17 March 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in the Department of the History of the City at 14 M.
