Bartłomiej K. was arrested on 18 February in Zgorzelec by officers from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Grudziądz and Bydgoszcz, together with border guards from Zgorzelec, when he and a colleague were driving a delivery van from Germany to Poland.
During a search of his vehicle, officers found more than 26 kg of marijuana on one of the pallets. The pallet had been made from... Polish wafers. The total value of the narcotics secured was approximately PLN 75,000.
Bartłomiej K. did not admit to the charges. He explained that while he was in Spain, an unknown man gave him a pallet of food products to bring to Poland, paying him 500 euros for it. The suspect claimed that he did not know he was transporting drugs.
The man was remanded in custody for three months. He could face up to 15 years in prison.
