Officers from the Economic Crime Unit of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra detained a 38-year-old resident of Piechowice suspected of attempting to commit fraud.

The man was caught by the officers on February 18, at approximately 4:41 p.m., in Jelenia Góra, immediately after signing an agreement to grant him a PLN 4,000 loan. Police established that the fraudster had used a forged certificate of employment and earnings from a company that no longer exists, as well as an identity document issued in another name.

It also emerged that the resident of Piechowice had attempted to fraudulently obtain loans at several Jelenia Góra retail outlets to purchase goods through an installment sales system. Moreover, the 38-year-old was wanted by the police—he is to serve a six-month prison sentence for another offense.

The man was placed in police custody. He now faces up to 8 years in prison.
