The incident took place on 11 February at 7 p.m. in the Przylesie housing estate in Lubin. Officers from the Independent Police Prevention Subunit in Legnica stopped a Ford passenger car for inspection because its occupants were not wearing seat belts.
During the inspection, the uniformed officers noticed that the passengers were trying to hide some packages. It turned out that they contained marijuana. The detained individuals had nearly 20 portions of the drug on them. All the passengers were detained.
A 21-year-old was behind the wheel, while the passengers were aged 21, 23 and 31 (all are residents of Lubin). One of the men did not have any documents with him. He stated his name, and his friends confirmed it; however, it turned out that he was lying, as Lubin police officers recognized him as a man wanted under an arrest warrant.
The passengers were fined PLN 100 for not wearing seat belts, and one of them was also fined for using vulgar language. In addition, they will be held responsible for deliberately misleading an officer about the identity of the person being identified.
They face up to three years in prison.
