The tragic incident occurred during the night of 10–11 February 2016 in Wleń. According to the findings, the perpetrator suffocated the woman by placing her head inside the storage compartment of a sofa bed and then pressing it down with the seat. Earlier, he had also struck her several times on the head with a sharp instrument. He could not strangle her with his hands because he had severed one of them many years earlier.
After committing the crime, Artur D. telephoned the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski, informing the duty officer about the murder.
The perpetrator was arrested. The man was unable to explain his actions in a logical manner.
On 12 February, the District Prosecutor in Lwówek Śląski will apply to the local District Court for D. to be held in pre-trial detention.
The suspect had previously received psychiatric treatment, so the prosecutor will immediately appoint forensic psychiatrists.
The matricide could face life imprisonment.
