The second stage of a comprehensive inspection of the fuel used in household heating stoves is currently under way. The campaign is being conducted by municipal guards together with inspectors from the Department of Environmental Protection and Waste Management of the City Hall.

According to the Municipal Guard, on Tuesday, 9 February alone, 33 properties were inspected in the Poznańskie housing estate. Nine irregularities were found. Inspectors issued three penalty tickets, totaling 750 zlotys. In one case, the matter was referred to court because the offender had been caught for the second time burning harmful materials in a stove and refused to accept a 500-zloty ticket.

Let us recall that the campaign to inspect stove fuel began at the end of November last year. So far, more than 300 inspections have been carried out. In 40 cases, they resulted in fines totaling approximately 5,000 zlotys, while more than 50 ended with warnings. Two cases were referred to court.

Unfortunately, inspection results show that many households are still burning materials that are illegal and dangerous to health in their stoves. These include plastic packaging, polystyrene, cut-up tires and a great deal of old furniture. This way of disposing of waste is illegal and violates the provisions of the Waste Act, which states that thermal treatment of waste may be carried out only in specialized incineration plants. Violating these rules constitutes an offense and is punishable by a fine of up to 5,000 zlotys when the case is referred to court.

Reports concerning the burning of waste can be made via the Municipal Guard emergency number 986 or 76 723 31 85.
