On Thursday, January 21, a meeting of the Bolesławiec County Council committee was held in the county office’s conference room. It was devoted entirely to county education. (We wrote about it in the article Kwaśniewski: In December I knew there would be no closure of “Budowlanka”). During the meeting, County Head Dariusz Kwaśniewski raised, among other things, the subject of private secondary schools:
Do we know when other general secondary schools will be established? The first one will open this year; Zdzisio Czyżowicz is setting it up. He runs a very good middle school—the II Private Middle School. The vast majority of its pupils, graduates of that middle school, will go to that high school. Whether all of them—I don’t know.
The County Head added that two more secondary schools were to be established in 2017: a Piarist high school and a school at Oxpress. (It is already known, however, that the Piarist fathers do not plan to open a general secondary school).
– Can we be angry that private schools are being established? No. I do not see it as something terrible; it is a challenge—D. Kwaśniewski stressed. –The students and parents will decide. But regardless of how many kids go to private high schools, our general secondary schools will receive as many as would have gone there. I put forward the thesis that the establishment of private high schools will hit the weakest vocational schools. And we know this because we have 17 years of experience managing education.
We were unable to contact Zdzisław Czyżowicz, head of the II Private Middle School. Unofficially, however, we learned that his high school will indeed open this year. Which county school will feel this most strongly? We invite you to take part in our poll:
Która powiatowa szkoła straci najwięcej uczniów, gdy powstaną prywatne licea?
We will return to this subject.
