Officers from the Criminal Division of Police Station I in Jelenia Góra identified and detained a 17-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra suspected of theft and burglary.

On December 1 last year, the suspect took advantage of the owner’s inattention and stole a navigation device and a wallet containing documents and payment cards from an unlocked car on one of the streets in Jelenia Góra.

The 17-year-old gave one card to his friend. It turned out that the two of them used the stolen cards at least six times to make contactless payments for purchases in shops in Jelenia Góra. The victim’s total losses amount to several hundred zlotys.

The victim notified the police about the theft of property, including payment cards. Based on the information gathered in the case and surveillance footage, officers identified and detained the people suspected of these offences. The 17-year-old’s friend had been detained by police officers several days earlier.

The Jelenia Góra resident now faces up to 10 years in prison.
