Officers from the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters detained a 30-year-old man suspected of committing two property crimes.
Taking advantage of the absence of a priest who was going door to door on a pastoral visit, the perpetrator broke into a sacristy (it probably concerned the Christ the King parish on Jana Pawła II Street) and stole, among other things, a chalice and a monstrance. On the same day, several hours after the incident, a 30-year-old man came to the priest and claimed that he had recovered the church property, but had had to hand over his watch and phone in exchange for it.
However, officers determined that this 30-year-old was in fact the perpetrator of the break-in at the sacristy. What is more, the suspect also robbed a nearby garage. His haul included a bicycle, a lawnmower and vacuum cleaners. The total value of the property stolen by the detainee exceeded PLN 10,000.
The police have already recovered some of the stolen items. The suspect faces up to 10 years in prison.
