– After collecting grave candles, we organized a food drive – Barbara SmoleńskaBarbara Smoleńska, president of the Bolesławiec Society of Friends of Lviv and the South-Eastern Borderlands and coordinator of the “Save Your Great-Grandfather’s Grave from Oblivion” campaign on behalf of the Henryk Sucharski Major Comprehensive and Vocational School Complex in Bolesławiec, says in an interview with “ii”.

Before the food drive, Bolesławiec Deputy Mayor Kornel Filipowicz invited Barbara to a meeting with the directors of the city’s schools. During the meeting, the head of the Society of Friends of Lviv and the South-Eastern Borderlands spoke about the campaign. Then the president of the Bolesławiec Zagłębie Lubin supporters’ club called B. Smoleńska and said that the supporters also wanted to join the initiative.

Among other things, Zagłębie Lubin fans created posters and provided regular updates about the undertaking on Facebook. Thanks to them, the communities of the Ignacy Domeyko Electronics School Complex and the Public Piarist Order Lower Secondary School named after Rev. Stanisław Konarski also joined the collection.

The result? So much food and cleaning products were collected that 250 packages were prepared. A considerable amount of food and household chemical products remained; another approximately 100 packages will be made from them.

On Saturday, December 26, six residents of Bolesławiec, including the president of the Zagłębie Lubin supporters’ club, will travel to the Eastern Borderlands with the packages. The gifts will go to students at the Polish school in Novyi Rozdil, as well as to Polish families in Drohobych, Zbarazh and Maksymivka.

– I am very pleased with our cooperation with the Zagłębie Lubin supporters’ club – says Barbara Smoleńska. – I would also like to thank Mayor Kornel Filipowicz. It is thanks to him that the city’s schools joined the campaign.
