Residents of the Therapeutic Day Centres on Bracka and Jaworzyńska Streets gathered for Christmas Eve meetings as early as 15 and 16 December. The residents of the Care and Education Centre of the Congregation of the Sisters of St Elizabeth on Słubicka Street did so the following day. The children helped prepare Christmas Eve dishes and also received parcels. On 22 December, a Christmas wafer meeting was held at the Therapeutic Assistance Centre for Children and Young People on Okrzei Street. Parents attended, while the young people performed “The Medieval Cauldron”.
A laid table awaited 130 residents of the Day Care Home on Korfantego Street on 23 December. In addition, 100 people received Christmas Eve dishes to take to their homes. On the same day, 90 seniors met at the Club on Moniuszki Street. On 23 December, the Shelter on Przemysłowa Street invited more than one hundred homeless people to a Christmas Eve meal and gathering.
At the Residential Social Welfare Homes for Adults on Grabskiego Street and for Children on Kubuś Puchatek Street, as well as at the Children’s Home on Wandy Street and the Care Emergency Centre on Wojska Polskiego Street, children and young people, together with their carers, will sit down to the Christmas Eve table on 24 December.
The St Hedwig Interparish Charity Canteen, in the new facility at 15 Dmowskiego Street renovated by the city, will prepare a warm Christmas Eve meal on Christmas Eve, 24 December, at 10:00 a.m.—mushroom soup, bigos and fish, as well as bread for everyone who wishes to attend. Hundreds of people most in need will also receive food parcels. Every year, the city subsidises the operation of this soup kitchen with PLN 60,000.
The organisers of the pre-Christmas gatherings prepared decorated Christmas trees, laid Christmas Eve tables and gifts for the residents. Sponsors also did an excellent job, generously supporting the preparation of holiday parcels for children.
